Koko Spice, a woman-owned business, is the result of an amazing (& ongoing) adventure to find a meat rub/premium spice that doesn’t have high sodium, artificial colors, additives or preservatives.
It started when my husband was introduced to the fine art of cooking with a pellet grill and smoker. How do you get juicy, flavorful ribs without drowning them in sauce? Use a rub, right? All of the rubs he tried, and he tried A LOT (popular, premium, friend’s recipes), were either too salty, too bland or had artificial colors, additives and preservatives.
Into the kitchen... After many iterations (and pounds and pounds of meat), the long quest produced not only a great meat rub, but also a premium, lower sodium seasoning that we started putting on everything! Meats, seafood, vegetables, nuts, eggs, breads, even pizza and popcorn - YUM!
Kokopelli, the ancient god of harvest who celebrates food and life, seemed to be the perfect mascot for the spice! We hope you try it out and join us in celebrating food and life!
